Ants are social insects and form colonies. They forage for food and can leave trails for other ants to follow. Therefore, they can be found in all kinds of places, including garbage areas or places where food remnants are found.
Different species of ants have various food preferences such as sweet based materials, protein rich food or grease. Ants could form a new colony once existing colony is over populated. A small amount of worker ants will forage for food while the rest remains in the nest to do cleaning and cares for the entire colony.
